Health Care Reform That Puts People First
You have my 100% commitment that I will first defund ObamaCare, then work to repeal it. While some say it is the law of the land and we can't change it, I disagree. We can correct the terrible mistake the democrat-controlled Congress made in seizing 1/6 of our economy and replace it with real reform based on free market opportunity, true health choices and keeps the trial lawyers out of hospitals. As a former nurse, I understand we need people making these decisions who understand the impact of health policy in the emergency room, not the court room. I'm proud that my stand has earned the endorsement of the Repeal ObamaCare PAC.
The means to achieve reform must neither jeopardize the doctor-patient relationship nor remove personal ownership and decision-making.
Having worked as a registered nurse and being a mother of a young man with developmental disabilities, the need for health care reform is not only an important issue facing our nation; it has been an important issue from first-hand experience.
The common sense solutions to increasing health care coverage and reducing costs exist in the free markets that have produced the most advanced and respected health care system in the world, not by increasing the government control of health care choices.
Exploring regional buying groups that small businesses can join to pool their buying power for health care options for their employees is a simple option. While large employers enjoy bargaining power, small businesses could leverage their collective numbers to accomplish the pricing advantages of big companies.
The availability of Health Savings Accounts should be increased with increased limits of annual pre-tax contributions by individuals from $3000 to $5000 and families from $5950 to $7500. This action puts patients in control of their spending for health coverage while reducing their taxable income.
Health Department Clinic utilization for primary care health needs should be expanded to relieve Emergency Department traffic. By developing clinical options in Health Departments that are tied to funding, high-dollar care meant for emergency intervention will not be the first access point for non-emergency care.
Free market solutions for a health care system that will serve patients rather than the government bureaucracy should be the priority in any discussion and legislation. |
