Free Trade That Supports American Workers
When looking at trade policies, any representative should first always ask, “is this best for the people I represent?” Not best for foreign governments, foreign workers or anyone above the people of East Tennessee. Voting for policies that limit our ability to compete and win in the global market is not in the best interest of our people. As a special representative to the inauguration of the President of Taiwan in 2008, I had the opportunity to visit with officials of their government and learn up close how damaging it is to our economy when China ignores the environmental, labor and human rights regulations in international agreements while the United States is criticized for seeking to protect our workers. Working men and women are the future of our country and the engine that will lead our economic recovery. I will always stand with you. Before I vote, I will always ask, “is this best for the 3rd District?”
