National Security - A Safe and Strong America
There is no higher purpose for the existence of government than the protection of our citizens.

Protecting our citizens requires a Department of Defense that is equipped to handle the threats facing America with forces that are strong enough to meet the challenge, spends your tax money wisely and uses every tool at its disposal to keep us safe.

On a global scale, we see the threat of outlaw nations moving to obtain nuclear weapons, test-firing ballistic missiles and ignoring the efforts of the world community to contain their efforts. I stand for continued aggressive development of a missile defense system and will work to restore important research funding cut by President Obama and the liberal leadership in Congress.

In his first year in office, Barack Obama placed our allies at risk with his refusal to move forward with the ballistic missile defense program in Europe and placed America at risk by slashing funding for ballistic defense systems here at home. Now he emboldens our enemies with a stated policy that they can attack us with any weapon, short of a nuclear device, without fear of a decisive and justified response. As a member of Congress, I will work each day to place our nation in the best possible defense posture and will never sacrifice our safety or security to unrealistic liberal views of the world.

When we see reports from the U.S. Air Force that Iran could have missiles capable of reaching American soil by 2015 and have North Korea test firing long range missiles today, it is the height of irresponsibility to cut these programs to pay for more Obama/Pelosi social experiments and pork. We will soon be looking at a world where our way of life could be threatened in a matter of minutes. Defense of this nation is our first responsibility and intelligent use of our resources to protect the American people must be a priority. I support the call to maintain defense spending at a minimum of 4% of our Gross Domestic Product.

It is critical that America remain engaged and increase our efforts in defeating international radical terrorism. Captured terrorists should be treated as the enemy combatants they are, instead of trying them in United States civil courts. I do not support importing terrorists to our soil to be held in American prisons or giving them the same rights and access to our American Justice system.

As a member of Congress, I will always stand on the side of the men and women who wear the uniform of our nation. It should come as no surprise that the first place the Obama Administration is looking to reduce the reckless spending of the past year would be the pockets of the men and women fighting to defend our freedoms. The president needs a new deficit commission to tell him where the wasteful pork spending is in his new social programs. He believes wasting our tax money on “stimulus”projects is a good idea, but seems to believe the soldiers, sailors and airmen who defend us each day are overpaid. President Obama has already slashed our ballistic missile defenses, sent the wrong message to America’s enemies by changing our nuclear deterrent posture and now has trained his sights on the wallets on our fighting men and women. Members of both parties should reject this approach

The men and women who fight for our freedoms and their families who sacrifice daily should not be penalized by the bloated spending of this administration on entitlements. As a member of Congress, I will defend the people who defend us.
