On the Road: Smart Girl Politics
September 18th, 2009
Today I had the great privilege to address the first Smart Girl Politics Summit in Nashville. Smart Girl is just one of the new and innovative ways conservatives have responded to the startling leftward direction our government has taken over the past eight months. As an all-volunteer led organization, they seek to give conservative women more of a voice in American political debate.
The message I delivered was a simple one. When we stand on principle, conservatives win. And when we win, we have a positive impact on our nation. When we are good Americans, we will be good Republicans. The warm reception I received, standing ovation following my remarks and the words of encouragement for the campaign were all most appreciated.
It was an honor to share the stage with Liz Cheney, Congressman Marsha Blackburn and Michelle Malkin. All are great leaders and strong voices for conservative principles but also for women in politics. I was additionally pleased to spend time with my friend and noted Vanderbilt Law Professor Carol Swain. Dr. Swain's courageous stands on issues facing our nation are an inspiration.
I am grateful to Stacy Mott, Founder of Smart Girl and Teri Christoph, the Executive Director for the invitation to speak to this wonderful group of women. I am fond of saying the solutions to our problems will not come from Washington. Smart Girl is a great example of Americans standing up to put our nation back on the right path.
