On the Road: Anderson County

Many thanks to all the great folks who came out to join me today in Anderson County. It was a long day, but meeting so many new friends makes the day fly by.

It is encouraging to hear from so many people who are concerned with the direction the liberal elites in Washington are taking our nation. I was particularly encouraged by the people who expressed appreciation for my stand that Congress should live by the laws it passes. Earlier this week, I joined with leaders such as Newt Gingrich, Congressman John Fleming of Louisiana and Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma in endorsing a simple idea: any so called "public option" that is passed as part of the Obama health care plan should require enrollment by members of Congress and their staff. If government run care is good enough for the rest of America, it should be good enough for Congress.

Simple and practical ideas like this often get lost in Washington.

I especially enjoyed my time at the Anderson County Fair. It is heartening and humbling when people say "I'm for you" or just wish me luck.  I am more convinced than ever that we can make a difference.
