Smith Opens Campaign With Strong Fundraising Report
HIXSON, October 13 – Third District Congressional Candidate Robin Smith’s first report to the Federal Election Commission, filed this week, revealed a broad base of financial support to match the grassroots momentum established in the first three months of her campaign. In the filing, Smith reported raising more than $149,000 between July 1 and September 30. Smith’s total surpassed the combined fundraising receipts of all other Third District candidates, Republican and Democrat, in their first filings with the FEC. “I am humbled and honored by the support Tennesseans are showing our campaign,” Smith said. “In living rooms and kitchens across the eleven counties of the Third District, I have had the opportunity to meet and receive the support of so many people who have responded to our positive message of consistent conservative leadership and a twenty year record of fighting for the values we believe in. It is gratifying that this total was reached without a major fundraising event, but by the individual contributions of 139 Americans who wish to see real change in Washington.” Smith noted that her fundraising total included no personal contributions or loans to the campaign by stating, “Americans have seen the wrong direction the privileged few have taken the nation. They see the federal government growing and spending our money at a staggering rate. They are alarmed by the radical left turn Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi are taking our government. On the road, I hear from Tennesseans who are ready to have candidates step forward who understand the work it takes to provide for your family and make ends meet. It’s time to give candidates who stand with working families the opportunity to fix the mess in Washington. My campaign will be about the people I represent, not the title I can buy. With this strong start, we are well on our way.” |
