Robin Smith Comments on Higher Health Costs to Seniors in House Bill
HIXSON, SEPTEMBER 3 According to new information released by the Congressional Budget Office, 12 million senior Americans will pay up to 20% more for Medicare Part D drug prescription insurance under HR 3200, the government takeover of health care plan passed by the House Energy and Commerce Committee. The CBO estimates were in response to inquiries made by Republicans on the House Ways and Means Committee and demonstrate the fraudulent arguments for reform made by the liberal leadership in Congress. This estimate follows earlier CBO reports that show seniors could face an increase in Medicare Part B premiums reaching $24.9 billion. In response to this new information, Third District Congressional Candidate Robin Smith commented, "It has become clear to everyone except Nancy Pelosi and the Congressional leadership that this health care reform plan does not lower cost, it does not increase quality and it does not give Americans freedom in their health care choices. Across America, citizens are standing up to their representatives and demanding they scrap this plan and get serious about meaningful reform." Smith called upon the Congress to start over in their deliberations on health care reform, starting with the concerns the members have heard in town hall meetings during the August recess. In order to regain any credibility with the American people on this issue, the Congress must hear our voices. Improving the system must include true freedom in health care choices, not a one-size-fits-all program and it must include meaningful legal reform. In its fear of lawyers, the Congress has refused to honestly address these outrageous lawsuits that drive up cost to providers and patients. Until Congress puts the people before the lawyers who fill their pockets with campaign contributions, Americans will continue to lose faith in their ability to deal with health reform. |
