Robin Smith Launches Constitutional Petition
HIXSON, AUGUST 25 – To honor the September 17 anniversary of the signing of the United States Constitution, Third District Congressional Candidate Robin Smith has launched a petition drive asking Tennesseans to join her in reaffirming their commitment to its principles. The petition was posted on Smith’s website this morning with an invitation to Tennesseans to take time over September to read our founding document and discuss its place in American history. “Unfortunately many of the members of Congress have demonstrated over the past few years that they either haven’t studied the underpinnings of our freedom or just don’t care what the Constitution says about the powers granted to the federal government and the states. Members of Congress have taken an oath to ‘support and defend’ the Constitution. It's time that oath drives policy.” Smith said. “This anniversary is a wonderful opportunity to familiarize ourselves, once again, with the law that has guided the greatest nation in human history. I hope through reading the Constitution and appreciating its simple truths, the choices we face as a nation will be made clear.” The petition will be available for signing on Smith’s website until September 10. It will then be taken with members of the Third District Tea Party movement to Washington for the national march scheduled for September 12. Smith noted the particular need for reconnecting Americans to its principles in light of recent government policies. “In this era of unchecked ‘czars,’private company takeovers and the drive to nationalize our health care system,we need to find our bearings now more than ever. The Constitution provides a plan and a path to greater freedom and a stronger nation. We need only to let the genius of our founders lead the way.” You can view and sign the petition here.
