Smith Denounces Latest Liberal Congressional Failure
HIXSON, JUNE 22 – Third District Congressional Candidate Robin Smith today reacted to the admission by House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) that congressional democrats will fail to pass a budget resolution for the first time since 1974. “This is a stunning failure of leadership and a clear signal that House Democrats care more about their own elections than they do the good of the nation,” Smith said. “Responsibility for this failure lies squarely at the doorstep of Speaker Nancy Pelosi. With Congressional approval ratings at rock bottom and the American people demanding reductions in obscene government spending, the liberals in Congress have chosen to take their ball and go home rather than admit their budget priorities run counter to the wishes of the people they claim to represent. It is an unfortunate example of the damage one party can do in Washington with unchecked power. Congressman Hoyer laughably uses the term, ‘spending and revenue compromise’ to describe the liberal approach. That’s politician-speak for cut defense spending and raise taxes.” Smith noted the priorities of the Congressional leadership are at odds with the needs of the nation. “As we continue to lag in job creation and the voice of the people is plainly telling these liberals to turn away from government-based solutions to every problem, they can’t find time to perform their most basic duty and pass a responsible budget. It is time to restore common sense leadership to Congress that hears and respects the voice of the people. I stand on the side of smaller government, small business and accountability. The failure to pass a budget is just the latest indictment of Nancy Pelosi’s failed leadership. In November, Tennesseans will have our chance to pass judgment on her approach.”
