Smith Scores Sweeping Victory in Hamilton GOP Poll
CHATTANOOGA, MAY 22 – Third District Congressional Candidate Robin Smith tonight won the second straw poll of the 2010 campaign with a sweeping victory among Hamilton County Republicans at their annual Lincoln Day Dinner. Smith took more than 56% of the vote in an 11 candidate race. Earlier this year, she won the Bradley County Republican straw poll with 42%. “I want to thank the Republicans of Hamilton County for their faith in me and support of my campaign,” Smith said. “Many of the people at the dinner tonight are the friends I have worked with over twenty years to make Hamilton a Republican County as we have stood together for conservative candidates and causes. They understand my campaign to see America return to our basic principles is grounded in the desire to pass forward a better nation to my kids and theirs. Tonight they gave voice to that support with their votes and I am very grateful.” Smith also noted the importance of the dinner to local party efforts. “I am especially glad we could participate in an event that raises critical funds for our local Republican candidates. Many times the hardest races are the local ones that don’t receive the attention or support they deserve. By raising money tonight, we will be able to support the men and women who put their name on the ballot in support of conservative government. In 2008, our local party and local McCain campaign headquarters made over 13,000 calls for McCain/Palin and 12,000 calls for local and state legislative candidates. That is the real impact of the money we raised tonight. By supporting this event, we strengthen our entire party. Helping candidates at all levels has always been my philosophy and I was proud to support the party.” |
