Smith Statement on Flowers' Withdrawal

HIXSON, NOVEMBER 30 – Third District Congressional Candidate Robin Smith issued the following statement on Paula Flowers’ withdrawal from the campaign.

“During our encounters on the campaign trail this year, I have been impressed with Paula Flowers’ commitment to the people of the Third District and her desire to work for a better Tennessee. While we do not often agree on the issues, I have found her to be a capable candidate and I was looking forward to a vigorous exchange of ideas in the general election.

As a working wife and mother I understand the sacrifices involved in offering yourself for public service while balancing the needs of your family. I commend Paula’s desire to focus on her family. Even now with our children much older, I understand the difficulty of balancing work and home and do remember the challenges of their younger ages being a greater task. Her decision,while difficult, is laudable.

I am sure Paula’s desire to serve Tennessee will find different expressions in the future. I wish her well.”
