Smith Honors Oak Ridge Workers
HIXSON, OCT 30 – Robin Smith, Candidate for Congress in Tennessee’s Third Congressional District, issued the following statement in honor of Oak Ridge workers on the first annual National Day of Remembrance to remember the contribution and sacrifice of America’s nuclear weapons program workers: “Tennessee’s ‘Secret City’ found its start in leading our nation in the race for nuclear weapons technology with courageous people who made it their life’s work, and many, their ultimate sacrifice, for America’s safety. The legacy of those who led the way in World War II continues today through the scientific community and drive for excellence in technology and safety in working to provide our Homeland with her security. Efforts and achievements yesterday, today and those being pursued are worthy of our tribute and praise only due to the great folks of this area. As much as any American who has ever carried a rifle, sailed the seas or stepped onto foreign soil to defend our freedom, we owe a debt to these men and women who served their nation with honor.” |
